Once a Cowboy
I fell in love with Jean the fall of our junior year at college. This was truly a clash of cultures. She had been around the world I had been around the barnyard. She was beautiful, intelligent, and talented. I was intriguing with fresh cow manure still on my boots. Perhaps it was curiosity or boredom that prompted her to say yes to my invitation to dance the first evening we met at the OSU ballroom. The more we got acquainted the more we had in common. We shared values that transcend the obvious and outward appearance. Her wisdom, tender heart, and unquestioned dedication to me have grown from a few strands to a strong cord over the last 34 and a half years. She is my best friend.
there are 3 things which are too wonderful for me, 4 which I do not understand: The way of an eagle in the sky, the way of a serpent on a rock, the way of a ship in the middle of the sea, and the way of a man with a woman. Proverbs 30:19 in each case the two are made for each other.
It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him. Genesis 2:18 Did he ever!
The silvery dress of the sculpture continues down one facet of the base as does the charcoal grey of the man. It is important that each of us maintains our own identity and is not totally overshadowed by the other (Once a cowboy - always a cowboy). The third facet is a value between the two which represents how both are indelibly changed as they take on some of the color of their mate. That is a good thing that really is too wonderful for me.
